PostSubject: From zero to hero.   Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:01 pm

Hi guys.Title of topic means not "how",title of topic scream "help people! help!" ))).First of all i'm from Russia,so you can luagh at my right english,so many times as your abs allow you)))).
Ok,here is my problem.I can't do at least 1 pull-up,even chin-up.
No,i'm not a skinny guy,or too fat,or something like that.I love skateboarding,love snowboarding,love dance,love active way of life Smile.
And never think about how many times a can do pull-ups.Tried to do them, but it was just for fun, hang out at the bar).
The reason why i start searching some videos, tips and etc. for pull-ups.It's just because once i saw, that way of muscle training, not just muscle training, but art form and self-expression(like skate and dance and not like gym-trainings).Many inspired videos from bar-barians,and other guys, are turn me on.Thanks for that, really.
So,when i go to my nearest bar,i realize how weak i am.Zero pull-ups,thats my goal. And this fact knock me down))).In mind just rage, anger at myself....and etc.Start looking for tips,go to your forum and what do i saw?)
Topics like that "I'm doing 30 pull-ups for 4 sets,oh my god i'm so weak"
And training routins, start with at least 10 or 20 pull-ups.
But,i don't give up.I start doing negatives for 5 sets and 1 reps in each.I do this sets twice a day.My muscle seems start to grow,or if i may call it like that)))).Then, when my arms cant do even 1 rep,i decided rest 1-2 days. After the rest,i go to the bar,and was happy like little puppy.Be cause i pull-up myself for 1 rep.Just hang-out at the bar and then pull-up myself. From that moment,i really start think that my progress will grow up in every day,and everything will be allright)).
But at the next day,my progress seems to be decresed.Again i can't do 1 pull-up,and again i start doing negatives.Thats frustrating as hell.Be cause before i do 1 pull-up,i was doing this annoing negatives for 2 or 3 weeks.
Maybe i do something wrong in my training,i don't no.Maybe be cause i have problems with my heart rythm.
Should i just try and try and try? Or start to form my own "negative" routine and than try and try?))
I also would love to listen some words, about yours start at pull-ups and how you win the fight with yourself).I know this one was long time ago,but it would be real inspire for me )).
If topics like that, are already exist here, please link them.be cause i just can't find them).Thanks.

I recommend working very hard on negatives given your current situation, aim for going down as slowly as possible, not just many reps coming down fast.

Keep at it, this does tend to happen when you have setbacks.

I don't have high rep numbers but i found a good way to increase strength is to introduce static holds. So at the top of the pullup hold for for a count of three, then half way down hold for a count of three and at the bottom hold for a count of three.

Don't worry if you're having difficulty doing pull ups or chin ups. They're challenging exercises and require a lot in the way of bicep and back strength.

To build up your strength you could start by doing bodyweight rows (see the video below). Practice them with both the underhand and overhand grip. When you can do a lot of reps easily you should try upgrading to chin ups or pull ups.

Yeah, stay patient, stay focused. The more time you spend building your strength and perfecting your technique, the better you'll be!
