PostSubject: Pyramid or simple sets?   Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:02 pm

Hello i would like to ask whats better for strength and increasing reps?
Sets or Pyramids?

Well actually whats better?
4 sets of 5pull ups and 15 push ups with about 2-4mins rest between each set

OR Pyramid like 1pull up 3push ups, 2 pull ups 6 push ups, 3pull ups 9 push ups and all the way down to 1pull up 3 push ups and 2 sets of these with about 8-12mins rest between?

Well the rest in pyramids is just in my mind, never tried to do a full workout with pyramids , i just tried in a day to do a Push up pyramid up to 5 and one pull up up to 3 and i saw that it was really challenging. So i guess whats better? Ofc pyramids look like they ll take much less time.

So what do u think?
Thnx a lot in advance and Happy new year, i ll be back next year (tomorrow Razz)

Both are good. Do them both ALWAYS. And less rest time.

well my dad is late so i m still here, by doing both u mean doing both on the same workout or changing through the time from sets to pyramids?
Maybe do a pyramid for a warm up and after do the sets?

maybe split it a bit through your day.

like morning wake up do a pyramid workout and then evening set workouts.

try do both in general though. all good all nice!

try to shorten rest though! your reps will go down at first but you will build up nice and hard and your 1 set maximum reps go up nice! endurance strength and size u get.

Apo athina (iliupoli)

SO u suggest me to try doing less rest (about 2mins) even if it costs me reps? it will help me increase the number , power etc better? Or even 2 mins rest is big? Something else to mention i am doing super sets of pull ups and straight after push ups, or it doesnt matter super set or what ever u must rest little between the sets?

thnx a lot and sorry for greek at start, i just answered a question of pulldog Razz

opa re file egw ime apo argiroupoli Wink

twra londino eimai gia spoudes.

do it all. i got my rest down to 1 min by now.

supersets and big supersets especially do with NO rest. only zip whater or stretch.

you can vary your workouts in general. sometimes go low rest sometimes go high rest.

if u train for pure strength u can rest 3 minutes. but shortening the rest helps a lot with everything! work up to it. get a solid workout in. then start cutting down rest. you will see the results!

when doing pull ups and straight after push up try to take no to almost no rest.

if you really feel you need to rest.. push a bit more.. then a little bit more.. than one more rep.. another one.. and then take ur rest..

challenge urself! you must break ur limits and numbers to succeed and progress. simply see that there are no limitations and ur numbers, ur strength and skill will advance everyday!

xarika pou gnwrisa allon enan ellina Wink ama thes tipota rwta!

P.S.

yes even if it costs you reps in the beginning. i used to do sets of 15-25 push ups with more rest inbetween. i shortened rest. after 2nd set i could hardly reach 12 reps.. i was like "what the fack?!"

but now i get my numbers up again and still stay at 1 min rest inbetween. feels great and has given me a lot of power and stamina! has helped my with harder moves too.

but ok i also progressed when taking more rest, a lot of things work. but lower rest is always good! u can make the same workout so much harder by shortening the time u do it in!

and people will see it in ur muscles and strength too!

hmm nice , but when i was reffering to supersets i wasnt meaning rest between exercises as tis rest for me is less than 10 secs (just go to the position to push up and if i m tired get 5-6 secs rest) but i was reffering to the rest between the super sets Very Happy, but i guess its the same that low rest like 2 mins will be by far better and increase a lot of everything.

I ll try it today by putting one pyramid or two and i m thinking about putting a set of explosive push ups and i ll try to pull up i guess by kipping a bit for explosivness. Well i was a bit injured in back and i was feeling small pain when i was moving in some directions my neck from neck to back but i m better now so i ll try the workout and ofc if i feel any serious (serious i mean strange or whatever pain) i ll stop and move to legs and abs etc Smile.

Well i ll reply here my feeling after short rest Razz

for pulldoggpull: Ti spoudazis re file? den piges katholou sxoli edo logo bathmou i apla itan afto p itheles ekso? Kala ine to londino? AN ine polla kalitera stilta se pm min mas vrisoun kai oi aloi?

Soz for greek again i guess will continue the greek conversesion via pms Smile

Well i forgot to reply yesterday thats why i do it now Very Happy

Well i putted one pyramid at start and i reduced the rest between sets to 2-2:30 and as expected my reps gone down like 5/15 - 4/11 - 3/10 - 3/9 almost 3 min rest and 3/8 and the same happened from chip ups and assisted dips but it was really difficult. I am sored today , anyway i ll keep the rest down and try to lower them gradually to 1 and a half or even 1 !!!

Thnx for the advice with rest time i m sure it make a difference in results Smile .
